Tom Misch

One of the most interesting and musically gifted artists rising in the ranks at the moment. His music hits the right vibes and is just mesmerising. He is a South London producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumental musician.
As a producer he is highly considered to be one of the UK’s most exciting producers. The video below is of Tom, conducting a four-day session as just a producer and his task is to create four tracks with four different artists. Having watching this myself, I am merely bewildered at how good he actually is. He creates from scratch, four great songs, with four different genre and styled musicians and he brings the best out of each of them and adds his own rich throbbing sound to the songs. After watching this, I really became infatuated with him – looking at everything that he has released, all the collaborations he is in, the songs he has remixed and so on. Notable mention, Friends – Tom Misch Remix. There are two remixes but the first one is the much better one. It’s just so cool and the flow is so ‘Misch’ you’ll know what that means once you’ve heard even just a few of his songs.
Tom initially gained attention for Beat Tape 1 which was released on SoundCloud. He followed this with Beat Tape 2 which was released on all streaming platforms. Both albums opened us to a neo-soul, funky, electro vibe. I do really feel that there is no one else like him at the moment. He has his own sound, and it is just playful and fresh. His collaboration with Loyle Caner on the song Nightgowns, is undoubtedly everyone’s favourite on the album Beat Tape 2. This hip-hop infusion with his style just fits so perfectly, it was a match made in Heaven. The two have again come together for Carner studio debut album, Yesterday’s Gone. (link to Carner article).
Another notable collaboration that I feel has really got people’s attention and certainly mine was Misch’s collaboration with FKJ another soulful, dynamic musician. Losing My Mind, the title of the song. It certainly made me lose my mind, I have personally played that video time and time again, it is an endless listen. Whatever it is he seems to be apart of just always seems effortlessly strike a cord within me, and I just find myself bobbing my head away to the songs.
I’ve found with the music that he tends to just solely produce he creates this dance-floor focused material, that still embodies his style. He never loses his own identity when changing up the genre of music being created. This is personally why I know that he will have a successful year, there is no doubt that he will be one of the biggest British musicians. Make sure after reading this you go and search his name up, and just allow yourself to get taken on a journey. You certainly wont regret it.
