March Madness, Who You Need to Be Listening ✌🏾

We’ve had a crazy month this month. Some big artists releasing some good and great albums, and you have your lesser known artists coming out with some bangers. I will write about a few from both sides, as well as talking about some new artists I have found this month that I have fallen in love with.

Be ready this is gonna be a good read.

We have Drake, released his More Life playlist over the weekend. I have already written an article on this but I have to tell you about it again. It really has grown on me, the album is defiantly one of his best, and you should listen to it at least once in your life.

Khalid, the American Teen sensation had released his debut studio album on March 17th, the album has received some great reviews. I have only listened to it briefly but he really does deliver. The vocals are polished and satisfying, the album is an easy listen, and he is defiantly one that has made this year his year.

Ed Sheeran, the sofa surfer now music mogul. Sheeran album took over the streaming charts when it was released with all his songs taking over the chart, if that doesn’t say anything about his music then I don’t know what will. The album is good, there are some really good songs on there – but I am not gonna lie I do miss the old Sheeran. That A-Team Sheeran. Then again similar with Drake, change is good and artists need to change their sounds to not become irrelevant, and predictable.

Big Mike, aka Stromzy. Released his debut studio album this month as well and my goodness the album was one of the best debut albums I had ever heard. The levels within the album were expected, and fresh. Stromzy is taking Grime to another level with his project, you get the hard rude boy tracks but also those softer gospel tracks. Overall the album was a massive hit, and if you haven’t heard please do check it out. You might be surprised.

Maggie Rogers, released her EP Now That The Light Is Fading which is just beautiful and mesmerising. The vocals, the electronic folk vibe that she is known for is just so spellbinding, the EP again is an easy listen, but that doesn’t take away from the quality within the EP. There is something special here, and I can’t wait to here her next project.

Hiatus, the electronic/ambient music producer. Hiatus (Cyrus Shahrad), is an Iranian ambient musician, who lives in south London and has released various EPs and two full length LPs — Ghost Notes and Parklands. He released this month a new single, titled Precipe (Anden Remix) although it is a remix it is a banger. Do check out Hiatus’s own original music, a few of my favorites are: River, Fools Fortune, Precious Little, Black Dogs, and Ghost Notes.

Frank Ocean. Man has been busy this month first with his collaboration with the Migos on Calvin Harris’s single Slide. Which is a real summer time banger, I can see that song being on repeated when the sun comes out again. He then went and only released a single of his own with Chanel which is a tender mesmerising track. I wonder what will be next, or will that be him done for another few years?

There are some other notable mentions form this month, Nikki Minaj single release, Lorde’s 2 single releases, Kyggo x Selena Gomez collaboration, Future’s 2 back to back album releases.

Now onto the fun part, I get to share with you some artist that I really think that you guys should be listening too. Some of them have been played during my wired radio sets, so if you have been tuning into those, then you may recognise them when you go and check them out yourselves. If not no worries, you’re in for a treat with this.

Fredwave (New New find)

Sigrid (Amazing vocalist, her single Don’t Kill My Vibe is just flawless, check her out and be on the look out for new songs from her)

FkJ (One of my favourite musicians at the moment, his collaborations with Tom Misch are my favourite. The multi-talented musician released his album French Kiwi Juice and it is a great playful album)

Tara Carosielli (London singer Tara Carosielli only has one song on her SoundCloud & Spotify, but Leave You Lonely is such a promising first step. It showcases a great voice and delivery, a restrained modern pop songwriting ability)

Saro (After introducing himself with the dance gem Test, London's Saro came back strong with Looking.)

Twelve’elven (American rapper, brings something different to the game. With what I’d call rock & soul. Listen to his genre bending raw album Friends released in 2016)

Mura Masa (I’ve been listening to Mura Masa since the beginning, but I feel now with his collaboration with Charlie XCX people will really start noticing him)

Danny Barwick (Australian newcomer Danny Barwick, only has three tracks on Spotify but each one is amazing and banging)

Fortunes. (Like Mura Masa, I’ve been listening to Fortunes since the beginning and these guys just keep getting better and better with each track they release. Their new single Focus is unreal, the levels on the tracks are fresh. The smooth, sexy, electro-R&B sounds, is what the give. The boys do have a new EP coming our way next month called Undress that is sure to get your juices flowing)

Sonder (Mesmerizing trio Sonder cut straight to the heart on their new EP, Into.)

070 Shake (Check them out, notable mentions Rewind, Honey, and Sunday Night)

Sean Leon (is a Canadian recording artist, and Leon’s mixtapes transport the listener to a world of down-tempo synth-driven tracks with slick rap verses.)

Jorja Smith (Been following her rise as an artist, been a fan of Jorja Smith for a long time. Was so surprised that she was featuring on Drakes album More Life, but at the same time I wasn’t because I have always pegged her to have a big year this year. Check out her single Beautiful Little Fools released 8th March. Other notable mentions, Blue Lights, and Where Did I Go?)

These are some of many of the artists that I have found over the course of this month. I will share more next month; this is all I want to share with you for now. These guys are and will be getting bigger – that is unquestionable. Check them out, share and enjoy.
