It has been a long time since I’ve uploaded any new material for you all to digest, and I apologise for that. I can make up for it with the next batch of articles that I have ready to upload for you. From my Bestival experience this year, that festival that used to be on the sunny Isle of Wight now at muggy Lulworth Castle in Dorset. To all the latest music that has come out since my last article, and my word is there do I have some serious tracks to share with you guys.
For this little filler in article, I guess what I’ll do is just talk a little bit about some artists and tracks that have really caught my eye.
The Japanese House
This solo project should be apart of any playlist of yours that you just want to chill to. Or any other playlist for that matter. It is that good. A mix of lush dream pop and brooding electronica. You need to have her on your playlists cause if you don’t you are truly missing out. Their sound is so relaxing and rich.
I have been meaning to write an article solely on them but haven’t gotten round to doing it. You should give them a listen too; you will be thanking me after you do.
Notable Tracks:
Cool Blue
Face Like Thunder
Saw You in a Dream
Sam Gellaitry
This lad. Wow. Some of you may not like his sound, but once you’ve watched him live you can’t not love him. What a talent. His mixing, and dj’ing ability is phenomenal. He was one of the acts that I really wanted to see when going to Bestival. His music is, striking and dynamic synthetic laze probing music.
If you keep that imagine in your head, you and turn on his tracks you can feel yourself in a rave, or underground boiler room session grooving to this. Again, some of you may not like this, but he is defiantly one to look out for this year.
Notable Tracks:
HYENA
LONG DISTANCE
DREAMSCAPES
ALMA
Another Bestival Performer. ALMA performing with her twin sister is the new wave of Scandinavian pop music breaking into the mainstream. Her trademark sound and green hair, make her different from the other musician within the same category. She has had some really successful tracks, and we are all awaiting her album. She really has a big following in the UK at that was really evident with the amount of people that went to go and see her at her shows of the weekend at Bestival.
Her tracks have a mixture of pop-electro, with piercing vocals makes some truly head banging stuff. Her latest track Phases with French Montana isn’t as good as her own stuff but it is a good chart track.
Notable Tracks:
Chasing Highs
Dye My Hair
Karma
Phases
Jordan Raki
Another one to watch out for, with a recently released album Wallflower which like the man himself is flawless. With it’s hypnotic poetic vocals, fluid focused electronic fused jazz. It is a sound that isn’t all that uncommon now. With Tom Misch, the most notable of all who is really bringing this groove back. Fondly enough the two have come together a few times to make some endlessly-playable music.
The Australian musician is defiantly taking our capital by storm. This is only the beginning of his rise.
Notable Tracks:
Sorceres
Midnight Mischief – Tom Misch Remix
Blame It on the Youth
XXXTENTACION
The gangsta Ed Sheeran. This album was the complete opposite of what I expected from the youngster. It really touched me, and you could feel the rawness from each individual track and within the production itself.
For his debut album he didn’t disappoint, following the footsteps of Lil Uzi Vert, BROCKHAMPTON, 21 Savage, and many others in trying to change the rap game and making it their own, he has really stood out for me with this album.
Notable Tracks:
Jocelyn Flores
Fuck Love (feat. Trippie Redd)
Everybody Dies In Their Nightmares
Jamila Woods
Another Chicago based musician that is making heads turn. Her album HEAVN came out back in August and it still stuck in my head. The album featured some great names such as, Noname, Chance The Rapper, Kweku Collins, Donnie Trumpet, and Saba. That is some feature list for your first album.
This album was kind of like and all Chicago musician collaboration. The album highlights the social and political issues which are important to Jamila. Every track here is resilient and steadfast without being angry and militant; each track has a different message but as a collective it creates the picture in your head, of what she and many others go through and think in modern America. Her vocals are rich and you can feel the emotion behind they lyrics. The album is a combination of electronics, jazz, and soulful melodies that make up the layered sound of her mesmerising album. The album is defiantly one that you should listen too, it is a classic.
Notable Tracks:
HEVAN
Blk Girl Soldier
LSD (feat. Chance The Rapper)
Daniel Caesar
This kid is the one. He is the full package. His lyrics for me are what makes him so intriguing and endless playable. The Toronto singer, really caught the mainstream attention with his album Freudian.
The warmth and emotionally rich track is structured with bluesy guitar melodies, stripped piano’s and soulful heart melting vocals. The influence of gospel music and his church upbringing is soaked in the cracks and crevices of Freudian. The soft pianos and church organs make up the bed that most of his records lay in. Unlike many of today's most popular R&B acts who have leaned on the golden era of ‘90s R&B (dvsn, Bruno Mars) or found influence in the modernize crossover of singing in rap’s trap era (Bryson Tiller), Freudian submerges itself in a lovely merger of throwback R&B and ‘90s Gospel music.
Notable Tracks:
Take Me Away (feat. Syd)
Japanese Denim
We Find Love
Get You (feat. Kali Uchis)
